One of the things that Lombard realized early in life was that he had a gift for writing. Both he and his wife Lisa are insatiable readers, owning a library of books numbering in the thousands. .

Deciding to do something special for his wife, Lombard decided to write a novel for his wife. While traveling out of town, Lombard plugged his phone into the stereo and played the first chapter for his wife and two adult boys via a text-to-speech app.

The family listened with great interest, and he worked feverishly to stay at least a chapter ahead of the family listening to his book Within six months, the complete book was listened to. Lombard is an ordained minister working as a hospital chaplain in the Fort Worth, Texas area. He and his wife have recently celebrated their 25th anniversary, and has raised two step sons.
